How much does Breast Health Check cost?

For both breasts £250 which is of duration 45 minutes.

Do I need a breast ultrasound or mammogram?

Breast ultrasound is a safe diagnostic tool that does not use any radiation and produces a picture of the internal structures of the breast. It can help determine whether an area of concern is normal breast tissue, a breast cyst or a solid mass that could be a breast tumour. Breast diagnostic ultrasound is more effective as compared to mammograms for adults under 35 years of age. Breast Mammogram is a breast x-ray which uses radiation. It is suitable for people above 40 years of age.

When may I need a breast ultrasound?

Breast Ultrasound may be needed

To investigate breast problems such as lumps, change of texture, nipple discharge
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding and have any abnormal breast symptoms
When there is an area on the mammogram that needs to be looked at more closely
To see if lumps are fluid-filled (cysts) or solid (benign/tumour)
To see if an area of thickening is breast tissue or a tumour
To assess the health of breast implants and overlying breast tissue

What happens during the appointment?

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment. The consultant radiographer will get you to complete a consent form.

You will be asked to lie on your back on the examination table with your hands at your sides.

A warm gel, very similar to hair-styling gel, will be applied to your breast. The gel will help the sound waves to travel from the machine into your breast.

A transducer, a small device similar to a microphone, will be placed over your breast. This will be painless, although you may feel mild pressure from the transducer.

The images will appear on the monitor. These moving images may be viewed immediately or photographed for further study.

Your exam will take approximately 30 minutes.

What preparation is needed before my appointment?

Please bring any previous ultrasound report or mammogram films with you on the day of your exam for comparison when reading your current ultrasound.
It is suggested that you do not schedule your breast ultrasound one week before your menstrual cycle, as your breasts are usually very sensitive at this time.
If your doctor gave you a referral, please bring it with you.

When will I receive the results?

The clinician will explain the ultrasound findings at the time of your scan. Following your appointment, a complete digital report of your Ultrasound examination will be emailed to you directly with any recommended actions.

What are the risks of Breast ultrasound scan?

There are no risks or side effects associated with the Breast ultrasound scan. Ultrasound does not use any radiation, here are no confirmed adverse biological effects on patients or instrument operators caused by exposures to ultrasound at the intensity levels used in diagnostic ultrasound.
