Who needs mummy MOT?

  • From 6 weeks after vaginal delivery
  • From 8 weeks after a C – section
  • Women who suffer from gynaecological conditions caused by pregnancy or birthing

What Does the Mummy MOT Treat?

What happens in the session? The session will last for 60 minutes and will include :

  • Full postural screen
  • Pelvic floor muscle assessment
  • Abdominal muscle examination to check for any separation
  • Screening for any bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction
  • Review and discussion of results from your assessment
  • A bespoke rehabilitation programme for you with your goals and lifestyle factors in mind
  • Hands-on treatment and guidance as needed
  • Advice and recommendations on follow up sessions if you would benefit from ongoing treatment and support
  • Report following your assessment

How do I know If I need mummmy MOT?

A woman’s body goes through massive physical and hormonal changes during and after pregnancy. These changes can have a significant impact on muscles and ligaments. Most women therefore experience weakness in abdominal and pelvic floor muscles after pregnancy and delivery. More than 50% of women complain of back and pelvic pain, incontinence, tummy gap (diastasis recti) and more following pregnancy and birthing.

If you experience any of these symptoms then you should seek help from one of our Women’s Health specialist physiotherapists.
Women who experience no adverse symptoms following the birth of their babies can also benefit from a professional postnatal assessment to ensure everything is healing as it should and to help you regain your confidence in yourself and in returning to fitness after giving birth.

What do I need to bring at the appointment?

Mummy MOT includes an internal pelvic examination. You will be required to remove the bottom half of your clothing for an assessment. Please wear comfortable clothing.
You will be asked to sign a consent form or give a verbal agreement before the examination takes place. You may be accompanied by your partner or relative for the session.

What are the charges?

Mummy MOT assessments cost £120. This usually lasts for 60 minutes but may take longer depending on the complexity of your condition.
45-minute follow-up appointments cost £90.

What treatment do I get?

Treatment offered includes Pilates, mat work, breathing exercises, Acupuncture, Advice on sleeping positions, exercise and movement modification.
