How to get a private GP appointment
Seeing a doctor shouldn’t be a pain. It’s your life – so why not be in control?
More and more people are booking appointments with a private doctor, often to get a quicker appointment.
Sometimes a new health issue crops up during the workday. You have no idea how serious it is, and you want to speak to a doctor about it. Or there will be days when all you need is extra face-time with a doctor. That’s where we come in.
The next thing you’ll want to know is: how to get a private GP appointment? At Ravenscroft Health we’ll give you an easy way to book appointments with a private GP in London. Keep reading to find out more.
Why see a private GP?
The NHS is under serious strain and it limits its general practitioners’ routine appointments to 10 minutes. Our doctors offer you more time – usually 15-minute or 30-minute consultations – to talk about your concerns in a relaxed environment.
Early detection is crucial for a swift recovery. If NHS waiting times aren’t meeting your needs, as a private patient you can save time and choose appointments that fit your schedule.
Ravenscroft Health’s range of services help you fully understand many different health issues. It is confidential, personal and convenient. This makes it ideal if you want to discuss particularly sensitive medical details.
From diagnosing a new illness or getting more specific on existing medical problem, here’s an overview of the common conditions we treat:
- Abdominal issues
- Allergies
- Digestive problems
- Ear, nose and throat (ENT) disorders
- Eye problems
- Heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol and blood pressure
- Infections
- Men’s health
- Mental health concerns
- Obesity
- Orthopaedic and musculoskeletal problems (muscles, bones and joints)
- Pain relief
- Sexual health
- Skin conditions (dermatology)
- Women’s health
Your choice of GP is up to you – whether you use the NHS or go privately. And if you are a registered NHS patient, seeing a private GP will not affect your NHS care. Please note, in case you ever need emergency medical assistance, you should remain registered with a local NHS practice.
Face-to-face and remote consultations
Making a doctor’s appointment has never been easier. With our private GP service, you take control of your healthcare.
We offer face-to-face consulting, as well as consulting remotely by phone or video call.
It means you can choose to see a GP at a convenient time, and from the privacy and comfort of your home if you wish.
Before your appointment
Here’s how to get an appointment at one of Ravenscroft Health’s London clinics. Simply contact us and choose the arrangement that is best for you: in-person or remote.
To make the most of your time, have a list of any medications you take and prepare questions to ask the doctor.
Examples could include:
- Are there any tests I will need?
- What are the tests looking for?
- How quickly will test results come back?
- Can you treat my condition with medicine or surgery?
- What medicines would you recommend?
- If I am unable to take certain medicines, are there alternatives?
- If I have surgery, where can I have this done?
- What are the risks, benefits and recovery times if I have a procedure?
What to expect at your appointment
Long-term patient relationships are important to us. It means we take the time to understand your needs.
On the first appointment, each patient is thoroughly assessed by our team. As part of this, you will fill in a medical questionnaire before you see the doctor.
You can see one of our private GPs about many health-related issues, whether it’s physical or mental.
We can then provide you with a personalised treatment plan. Our teams use evidence-based, whole-body approaches.
After your appointment
Following your appointment, you’ll have a better idea of the next steps to take.
If medication is appropriate, we will issue prescriptions on a private basis. Unlike the NHS, there isn’t a set fee for these, so prices might be higher or lower.
The GP may recommend further appointments to you, either for tests or referral to a specialist. We will discuss this with you beforehand, including any associated costs. Blood tests, scans, and other investigations you may need as a result of the consultation are not included in the appointment fee.
You will get an outcome letter from us detailing this. We can also send a copy to your NHS GP (with your consent), who can refer you back into the NHS for secondary treatment if you prefer.
